This class is for the student who has some upholstery experience. Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of upholstery techniques including fabric layout, welting, cushions/zippers, webbing and springs. Students should be familiar with sewing and have completed at least 2 sessions of Beginning Upholstery or the equivalent. The instructor will go over some advanced techniques and more complicated projects with the group. These class sessions will have an “open” format. Students are expected to be able to work independently after some instruction of new or more complicated techniques. Lab fee: $10 due at first class meeting. Two 3-hour sessions.

Home Décor Learning Center will provide all the materials to learn how to reupholster a dining room chair seat and a sprung footstool!  You will tear-down and reupholster these items using the appropriate tools, learn tool safety and the techniques needed to complete both projects.  Skills taught include webbing, attaching and tying springs and applying stuffing.   This class is the prerequisite for Beginning Upholstery. Yes, Zippers! People seem to cringe when faced with the task of sewing in a xipper. I this class you will learn several ways to insert a zipper. From the standard double lapped zipper to an invisible one. By the time class is over, you should have less fear about sewing zippers.

In this class you will learn About the sewing machine feet that came with your sewing machine and how to use them.  You will make samples using the various feet to keep in your workbook.  The feet that will be covered in class are:  the zig-zag foot, zipper foot – both adjustable and standard, blind hem foot, buttonhole foot – automatic, slider, and manual, overcast foot, narrow hemming foot, and the ¼” foot.  This class is sure to be an exciting and informative experience.

Bring your sewing machine and all it came with including the manual and some sewing machine needles (in case you break one).  Also, bring you basic sewing supplies – scissors, thread, and some pins.

Sewing Machine Ft - Specialty
 

In this class we will learn about many specialty feet that can be acquired, both past and present, for your sewing machine.  There will not be sufficient time to practice using all of the feet, but we will pick ones in class that students are most interested in.  The feet we will discuss are:  the edge joining foot,/stitch-in-the-ditch foot, cording/piping foot, fringe foot, multi-cord foot, pintuck foot, open toe foot, ruffle, underbraider, quilting foot with guide arm, and the darning foot.

Bring your sewing machine and feet if you have any of the above listed feet.  If you have none of them, you will use of our machines to practice on.  You are sure to experience an “ah-ha” moment on something we cover in class.

Do you have window seats that need cushions?  What about your outdoor furniture or wicker/rattan pieces that need new cushions?  In this class you will sew a boxed welted cushion from start to finish. You will cut your fabric, make welting and insert a zipper, sew the entire cushion and stuff it.  Three 4-hour sessions.

Custom slipcovers tend to be quite expensive, so learning how to make them makes good financial sense.  In this class you will make a slipcover for a chair of your choice.  Chairs are always a good choice, whether a dining chair or armchair for the living room or family room.  You will need your fabric before class starts, so please check with the instructor for yardage requirements.  Bring to class the project you want to cover, the fabric and scissors.  Any other supplies (thread, welt cording, zipper, velcro, pins etc.) can be obtained at HDLC.  Two 6-hour sessions.  Kit fee $30.

SLIPCOVER A CHAIR! - Ses. 2 of 2
 

Custom slipcovers tend to be quite expensive, so learning how to make them makes good financial sense.  In this class you will make a slipcover for a chair of your choice.  Chairs are always a good choice, whether a dining chair or armchair for the living room or family room.  You will need your fabric before class starts, so please check with the instructor for yardage requirements.  Bring to class the project you want to cover, the fabric and scissors.  Any other supplies (thread, welt cording, zipper, velcro, pins etc.) can be obtained at HDLC.  Two 6-hour sessions.  Kit fee $30.

No sofas please.  However, the skills learned in this class can be applied to slipcovering a sofa.

Home Décor Learning Center will provide all the materials to learn how to reupholster a dining room chair seat and a sprung footstool!  You will tear-down and reupholster these items using the appropriate tools, learn tool safety and the techniques needed to complete both projects.  Skills taught include webbing, attaching and tying springs and applying stuffing.   This class is the prerequisite for Beginning Upholstery. Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of upholstery techniques including fabric layout, welting, cushions/zippers, webbing and springs. Students should be familiar with sewing and have completed at least 2 sessions of Beginning Upholstery or the equivalent. The instructor will go over some advanced techniques and more complicated projects with the group. These class sessions will have an “open” format. Students are expected to be able to work independently after some instruction of new or more complicated techniques. Lab fee: $10 due at first class meeting. Four 3-hour sessions.
