Our Discovery Camp programs are based on the overall philosophy that young people benefit from experiences in the outdoors. By combining outdoor recreation with science and learning, our campers leave each day happy, full of knowledge, and more often than not, really tired! After a day spent building forts, hiking through the woods and splashing in creeks, don't be surprised to see your child fall asleep in the backseat on the way home! Along the way he or she will develop a greater awareness and appreciation for the natural world and how they fit within it. We hope you'll join us in celebrating our fifth year providing learning opportunities that cultivate a sense of adventure, foster an enthusiasm for exploration and promote environmental awareness.

Individual, corporate and foundation gifts play a vital role in sustaining and advancing the Arboretum's mission and goals. Financial and in-kind contributions to The North Carolina Arboretum Society are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. For people 70.5 years of age or older, gifts made directly from your IRA in 2009 are tax-free and can count toward your required minimum distribution. For Curious Critters and Gone Buggy: a water bottle and weather-appropriate clothing.

For Spring Adventure Camp, Citizen Science Camp, Advanced Citizen Science Camp, Eco Detectives, Science Connections, Boots, Paddles and Reels 1 and 2, Little Mountaineers, Advanced Eco Detectives, River Trek, Nature's Studio, Feathers, Fur and Scales, Aquatic Adventures, Junior Mountaineers and Summer Camp Classic:  a water bottle, lunch and a spare change of clothes.

For Eco Challenge, Wilderness Explorers, Nature Adventure Camp, Mountain Trek and Outdoor Explorations- Flashlight with fresh batteries, change of clothes, sweater or warm jacket, sleeping bag, water bottle, closed toe shoes, day pack or book bag, overnight bag (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc...)  OPTIONAL ITEMS:  small pillow, sandals, book to read, camera.

All camps- ITEMS THAT SHOULD NOT BE BROUGHT:
Electronic devices (other than camera and flashlight- no cell phones, video games, music players, etc.), pocket knives, or weapons of any kind.
